My Suggestions For Constitutional Amendments

I believe there is a political statement upon which we all can agree: In these times, there are many problems in our nation which need attention.
From that point forward there shall be much disagreement.
I believe We The People are the boss of Congress. I believe they work for us. However, there is evidence that Congress believes the opposite, that Congress is the boss and that We The People work for them.
CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAWS FROM WHICH THEY ARE EXEMPT (No more sucky legislation for We The People, while lawmakers treat themselves like royalty)
WE THE PEOPLE SHALL APPROVE BY NATIONAL VOTE ALL CONGRESSIONAL PAY ADJUSTMENTS AND BENEFITS (We The People are their boss and shall raise OR LOWER Congressional pay based on merit and the economy--- just like in real life. No more would Congress sneak through midnight pay raises while the economy is in the tank.)
SOCIAL SECURITY SHALL BE THE ONLY RETIREMENT BENEFIT THE TAXPAYER PROVIDES FOR CONGRESS (Why should Congress get tax-paid, life-long, millionaire pensions while We The People, their boss, struggle on Social Security. If Congress wants more retirement money, let them invest privately like We The People do)
A MEMBER OF CONGRESS SHALL SERVE NO MORE THAN SIX YEARS IN THE POSITION TO WHICH THEY ARE ELECTED (No more life-time hangers on. Get in, make your point and go get another job. Let new ideas prevail)
WE THE PEOPLE SHALL FILL ALL CONGRESSIONAL VACANCIES BY SPECIAL ELECTION (No more BS, political pay-olla. Does Chicago trigger any memories? We The People will hire our own Congress people, thank you)
There may be others, but this would be a good start to solving many of our political problems.

Top-level comments on this article: (3 total)Wonderful ideas expressed in this piece! What can we do to make it happen?Marijo (Mary Jo - dad was a creative speller - I went to ISU for 3 years before transferring and my sister graduated from there)Dear Marijo, Thanks for the comments. Love your name. Hats off to dad. There are two ways we can propose amendments: 1.Two-thirds of both houses of Congress vote to propose an amendment, or2.Two-thirds of the state legislatures ask Congress to call a national convention to propose amendments.Since neither of these is likely to happen (can't you see Congress passing any of these) we can only dream. However, is has to start somewhere. Best thing we can do is copy this and send it to everyone on our email lists until a few honest politicians begin to push. Then it will happen. We must start asking our politicians how they stand on these issues. It could happen. The TEA PARTY Movement may force some changes. Best to you. Iowa State plays Iowa University this Saturday. I'll be there. Go Cyclones. God Bless you, Marty RicKard
Hi Marty,Here here! I think your points are excellent and should be implemented. We the people should get back to taking control what is going on in our country.Blessings,Michelle
Marty, I agree with all of them! Only trouble is, Congress would never agree. Therefore, we would need to go over their heads and call a constitutional convention to get them passed.
